Whether you've got a great feeling about specific MLB futures odds or just want to see what all the fuss is about with sports betting apps, there's plenty to learn about the ins and outs to maximize your betting experience and, of course, your potential payouts.

Betting on MLB future odds can seem daunting, but it's actually pretty easy to understand once you get the hang of it. Choosing winners is more difficult, but that's half the fun of making bets at the various online sportsbooks that are handing out futures odds today.

MLB World Series Futures

Everything changes in October after a grueling 162-game schedule, making the baseball postseason one of the most exhilarating and up-for-grabs playoffs in sports. Consider that three wild cards have won it all since 2011 and you're left with plenty of options to consider when picking a winner. Whether you're all-in on a favorite, believe a team will be aggressive at the trade deadline so you're taking their odds now, or can't keep your fandom out of the equation and pick your favorite team, there are plenty of routes to take when analyzing a World Series winner. Here's a look at this year's favorites heading into the last few months of the season:

  • Braves (+330)
  • Dodgers (+500)
  • Astros (+550)
  • Rays (+850)
  • Rangers (+850)
  • Orioles (+1200)

At A Glance

All major operators such as BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, and FanDuel will have World Series odds that change throughout the course of the year based on what's happened during the season to date. These odds are available all the way up until a champion is crowned in late October or early November. You can also check the operators to see which sportsbook promo codes might be available.

Other Popular MLB Futures Odds to Bet On

Online sportsbooks will provide unique MLB futures betting odds over the course of a season. Besides the most popular ones that we'll get into a bit later, other examples include whether a player will break Aaron Judge's 62-home run mark from last season, what state the World Series winner will be from, and specials such as Shohei Ohtani to win AL Cy Young and AL MVP. These bets are most often found during the preseason, but some are also available as the season goes on.

MLB Playoff Futures: Odds to Win Their Division

Things have crystallized a bit more since the trade deadline came and went on Aug. 1. The Braves are on pace to be the class of MLB this season. The surprising Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers are in a fun see-saw battle for the NL Central lead. The Dodgers have climbed back to the top of the NL West. In the American League, the Orioles have proved to be the equal of the Rays in the East. Minnesota leads the Central, though the Twins are far from world-beaters and are barely over .500. In the West, it's a shootout between Texas and Houston. Disappointing seasons in San Diego and in New York (Yankees and Mets) continue. Wild-card shockers might include the Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks. Plenty of teams still need to show they can compete for a full 162-game slate. Like they say, that's why you play the games.

Here is a look at odds for some teams to win their division:

  • Phillies (+4000)
  • Astros (+110)
  • Giants (+650)
  • Blue Jays (+1100)
  • Guardians (+250)
  • Yankees (+5000)

Pennant Futures At A Glance

The Orioles have turned the baseball world on its head with their rampage to the top of the AL East, knocking the Rays out of the top stop, something no one saw coming the way Tampa Bay opened the season. The Rangers and Astros both got big-time pitching in future Hall of Famers Max Scherzer (Texas) and Justin Verlander (Astros) at the trade deadline and will likely duke it out all the way to the end of the season. Houston's pitching depth and track record of timely hitting (and the fact that they're defending champions) means they'll be in it late into the postseason.

The Rays are still serious contenders, but the upstart Orioles believe in themselves and their young corps of stars like 3B Gunnar Henderson, C Adley Rutschman and relievers Felix Bautista and Yennier Cano.

In the National League, the Braves and Dodgers are still considered the class of the league while the Reds have been electrifying with the addition of rookies like infield sensations Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain and Spencer Steer. The Brewers have been steady and have the pitching to play into October, but it's a question of whether the bats will be enough. Defending NL champs Philadelphia have woken up and are in the thick of the wild-card chase after scuffling near the bottom of the NL East much of the season.

Division Winner Futures At A Glance

The Twins are barely at the head of the class in the lowly AL Central, the Astros have shaken off a slow start and trail close behind the upstart Texas Rangers in the AL West, and the Rays' historic start hasn't been enough for them to hold off the division-leading Orioles in the AL East.

The Braves are cruising along in NL East ahead of the Phillies, who have reverted to form, and the surprising Miami Marlins. The Reds and Brewers are trading places atop the NL Central and have turned that division race into a fun one to watch the rest of the season. One of the surprise teams in the NL was the Arizona Diamondbacks, but they have fallen off the pace behind the Dodgers and Giants in the West, though the D-backs remain in the wild-card chase with a slew of other NL squads.

MVP At A Glance

Though Shohei Ohtani has sort of turned this award on its head with his unprecedented skill set, we typically find that the best hitters in baseball rise to the top of this list each year. You won't find that many outliers here, but you will find home runs, RBI and production at the plate for winning teams. Last year's winners included Aaron Judge (62 homers) and Paul Goldschmidt (115 RBIs) for division-winning teams.

Cy Young At A Glance

While Rookie of the Year and even MVP can come from unlikely winners, Cy Young has been a race among the MLB's best starters in recent years (a reliever hasn't won since Eric Gagne in 2003). The National League has had back-to-back winners three times since 2013 (Kershaw in 2013 and 2014, Max Scherzer in 2016 and 2017, Jacob deGrom in 2018 and 2019) while the American League has had winners such as Justin Verlander (2022, 2019), Blake Snell (2018), and Shane Bieber (2020) take home the award in that span.

Rookie of the Year At A Glance

Unlike the NFL and NBA, Rookie of the Year winners in baseball can come from just about anywhere in the draft and be players who have been in the minors a handful of years. The 2022 winners were Michael Harris II (selected in the third round of the 2019 draft) and Julio Rodriguez (signed as a 16-year-old international free agent in 2017). It's tough to handicap, and the preseason odds reflect that: Rodriguez was a respectable +600 to win the award to begin the year, but Harris wasn't even listed among the 25 names that went as long as +10000.

MLB Stat Leader Futures

Home run leader is one of the most popular stat leader futures that bettors wager on each year. After Aaron Judge set the AL home run record and players like Shohei Ohtani, Pete Alonso, and Yordan Alvarez continue to mash, betting on this is plenty of fun. Other examples that are offered throughout the year include strikeout leader and batting average champion. Here's a look at the current MLB future odds for 2025 MLB home run leaders.

MLB Regular-Season Win Totals

MLB future odds total wins are some of the most popular preseason wagers. With every team 0-0 and bettors eyeing injuries, potential for trades at the deadline, and breakout candidates, it's a fun bet that means players have a stake in every game that's played (without needing to place 162 wagers). While future odds also exist for this market while the season is going on for a few teams, victory totals for all 30 teams are available prior to the beginning of each season.

MLB Futures for Beginners

We've all been asked the questions: "Who do you think is winning it all this year?" "Who do you like for MVP?" The answer to those types of questions is the equivalent of a futures bet. While traditional bets focus on run lines and totals are concerned with a single game, MLB future bets look at the season as a whole. There are player futures (AL Cy Young, NL Rookie of the Year, etc.) and team futures (AL West winner, the Brewers to win over 82.5 games, the Yankees to be the first team to win 30 games).

Most bettors make bets on MLB futures betting odds before a season begins, but online sportsbooks offer ever-changing odds on these major market futures over the course of a season. These fluctuating odds are respective of how likely it is to happen (Shohei Ohtani was -1000 by the end of last year's historic campaign), but there will always be a chance to make bets on the occurrence or non-occurrence of something happening by season's end.

What is a Future in MLB Betting?

Most wagers that bettors make focus on a single game: The Red Sox and Yankees to go over 9.5 runs; the Cubs to win outright over the Cardinals; the Padres to cover -1.5 against the Diamondbacks. Because MLB future odds can feature so many potential winners (compared to a single game that has two outcomes), odds are much longer to begin a season and feature dozens of potential winners.

All 30 MLB teams will have World Series odds to begin the year, there are about 30-40 players who get MVP odds in each league, and there are always MLB division futures for each six divisions. What's more, these odds change over the course of a season, giving bettors the opportunity to find value based on what's happened already and what they believe will happen that differs from what operators are predicting.

For example, the Tampa Bay Rays' red-hot start in 2025 has vaulted them toward the top of the World Series futures odds list. Similarly, Shohei Ohtani taking the baseball world by storm again has MVP aspirations, as do other stars like Ronald Acuña or Vlad Guerrero Jr.

How to Read MLB Futures Odds

As a whole, odds tell the same story even when listed in different format. It's the cost of choosing that outcome and what the payout will be if you place that wager. Here's a look at the three ways that odds can be listed at the various operators that players use to place these bets.

  • American Odds: Bettors are most likely to see American odds when playing with operators in the U.S. Examples include +300, which means a $100 bet would yield $300 in profit, or -175 that indicates a bettors must wager $175 to earn $100 profit.
  • Decimal Odds: Decimal odds are typically found in non-U.S. countries and their respective sportsbooks, but it's pretty simple to understand once you get the hang of reading them. These odds show how much bettors will yield on a $1 wager. For example, 2.6 odds mean bettors will receive $2.60 total on a $1 wager ($1 wager + $1.60 profit = $2.60). For favorites, 1.4 means bettors receive $1.40 total on a $1 wager ($1 wager + $0.40 profit = $1.40).
  • Fraction Odds: Fraction odds are typically seen in events such as horse racing, but it's possible you may come across them with MLB futures betting odds. They work like this: Fraction odds of 9 to 5 mean bettors would need to wager $5 to win $9. Likewise, shorter odds of 1 to 3 mean a $3 wager yields just $1 profit (because it's highly likely to occur).

Above all else, odds represent the probability of something happening or not. There are a number of intuitive odds converters across the internet that can help bettors determine what respective online sportsbooks interpret that a specific outcome has the chance of happening. It's also why we recommend shopping around for different lines at multiple online sportsbooks, because it's almost a guarantee that you will find longer odds (meaning higher payouts) at one sportsbook compared to another.

Where to Bet on MLB Futures Odds

Bettors have options to choose from when it comes to placing MLB futures best bets. The most popular operators and the best ones to use include those that have a long list of odds (longshots happen, especially in MLB), those that have all the awards (like Cy Young and Rookie of the Year) instead of just the main ones (World Series winner, MVP). Here's a quick look at the top operators and why BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, and FanDuel offer the best experience for bettors.

1. BetMGM

MLB futures bets 2025 will fluctuate over the course of the regular season and postseason, and BetMGM is known for having some of the most up-to-date odds on the largest number of awards and winners (not all operators will have all odds up at all times). New bettors who use the BetMGM bonus code USATODAY will also earn a first-bet bonus up to $1,000 on their initial wager. Earn cash profit with a win or matching bonus bets with a loss. It's a great offer for all types of bettors.

2. Caesars Sportsbook

With some of the most competitive odds in the industry and an outstanding mobile app, betting on MLB future predictions is a breeze with Caesars Sportsbook. Bettors who register with the Caesars Sportsbook promo code USATODAYFULL can also make a first bet up to $1,250 on Caesars to use on MLB futures odds 2025. It's the largest potential dollar amount in the industry, adding to the reasons to use this operator for your baseball betting needs.

3. DraftKings

You'll find all the best MLB future bets at DraftKings, which also does a great job of boosting futures odds at times to kick off seasons. For example, the start of the MLB season could have DraftKings allow bettors to add +300 odds to any World Series futures bet. What's more, all new bettors can use the DraftKings promo code to earn $150 as six guaranteed bonus bets each worth $25 when they register for a new account and place any $5 bet. Guarantees are always great in the online sports betting world.

4. FanDuel

FanDuel is one of the most popular operators in the industry and provides a great experience for those betting on MLB futures 2025. A nice feature it provides players is being able to parlay futures odds together to create even larger odds for players looking to go big. Bettors can also use the FanDuel promo code to earn a No Sweat First Bet up to $1,000 when they register for a new account, making this one of the largest welcome bonus offers in the industry.

How to Sign Up and Bet On MLB Futures Odds

If you're ready to take your shot at betting on MLB future odds 2025, it's as simple as following a few nice and easy steps. Operators want players to spend more time playing and less time registering, so it's simple to get started and bet MLB futures.

  1. Download the operator's app for free at either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. Begin your registration for a new account within the app or website. You must use the promo code associated with the operator during registration, so note you can't go back and add it later.
  3. Create your account and profile by providing the operator with your personal information to help you verify your identity; note that all bettors must also prove they are at least 21 years old and physically located in a state where the sportsbook has launched and is operating.
  4. With your account now created, make a first deposit to fund your new account (some bonuses require players to deposit a certain amount to earn the bonus, so read the fine print) before starting to browse the various 2025 MLB futures odds available.

Final Thoughts on MLB Futures

With so many unique individual awards and a postseason that can be unpredictable more times than not, MLB baseball futures are some of the most interesting that bettors can wager on when playing with online sportsbooks. So much can change, too, over the course of a 162-game season, so futures that start slow in April and May can look great by July and August, while so much of team futures can hinge on what a team does at an active trade deadline. Make sure you're getting the best odds on the MLB betting futures you choose before placing your bets and then sitting back to watch the action all summer.

MLB Futures FAQs

An MLB futures bet is a wager on the occurrence or non-occurrence of something by season's end. They are different from traditional bets, which focus on a single game or outcome. Examples include World Series winner, National League Cy Young, AL West Division winner, or the Red Sox to win under 79.5 wins.
All major operators offer the best MLB futures bets to players. It's important that players look around at multiple online sportsbooks to make sure they're getting the best value for their futures MLB bets. All legal and licensed online sportsbooks will provide MLB 2025 futures.
This year's baseball season is more wide open than it has been in recent past. That makes current MLB futures odds closely tied together, with the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros among the favorites to win it all.
When it comes to future bets MLB, it can make some sense to hedge your bet. If you have already wagered on one outcome at +600 odds and it looks like the race you've bet on is down to two outcomes, it could make sense to also put some money on the second outcome +300 so you win either way. Always calculate what your new MLB futures picks would look like if the hedge hits to make sure you're maximizing potential payouts.
Yes, MLB future bets can be cashed out at online sportsbooks over the course of a season for a percentage of the winning amount. That percentage is calculated by the likelihood of the actual bet winning. It won't always be available, but it's important for bettors to always be checking their bet slips during the season or playoffs to see if it makes sense to cash out.
